Would My Baby Look Mixed Or Just Like My Husband?
Posted on 24. Nov, 2009 by in Q&A
I am pregnant and can’t help but wonder how my baby will look like. At the end I don’t care much because I will love him/her no matter what. It’s just that I have heard Asian blood is strong (my husband’s Vietnamese) and I wonder if he’ll get anything from my side (Spanish) like the light skin and curly hair. Are some races more dominant than others in terms of genes? Thanks

My husband is 1/4 Korean. His grandfather is blond hair blue eyed German decent and his grandmother is a Korean immigrant. All three of their kids look asian. Only difference is they have the taller and heavier caucasian frame.
You can’t tell my husband (brown hair, green eyes 6′1″) is of asian decent unless he tells you. Then you can see it around the eyes and the fact that he has little body hair.
(His father is brown haired blue eyes) His brother looks totally caucasian (brown hair, blue eyes, light skin 6′3″).
My husband and I have a son. I am of mixed European decent and Native American. My son looks caucasian except he has asian eyes. (brown hair, brown eyes large build)
So just from my family experience I think that asian blood can be pretty strong because of its distinct characteristics, but when it comes to genetics sometimes you can be very surprised.

I am half Portuguese so I have the Spanish-esque genes, and my son came out looking just like my husband–your run of the mill, white boy! I had always heard that blond hair, blue eyes, and all of the things associated with the caucasian/english/scottish/swedish traits were considered recessive, but his little recessive genes were quite strong, and my brown hair, hazel eyes had no chance (but he got my lips, thank goodness)!! My point is, no matter how strong you think your husband’s genes will be, you have no idea what will come out, and your baby may be a perfect clone of you. And you also cannot tell what recessive/”weak” genes he has floating around in there that would hook up with a match of yours!! Good luck on your baby, he or she will be beautiful regardless!!

I’m still pregnant but my baby’s father is African American and when we got the 3D ultrasound done you could definitely tell he had his father’s nose. African Americans tend to have a broader or wider nose than caucasians. I’m not sure who your baby may favor but I would assume the “Asian eyes” would be a predominant feature on your child. I certainly can’t help but feel the same as you though. I too wonder how he’s going to look and it makes the whole experience so much more exciting. I do believe that some races are more dominant than others.

I have a friend that had twins
One look like the Italian father
Olive skin, dark hair, brown eyes
One looks like the Irish mother
fair skin, green eyes, red hair
You can not they are twins
The lady on BB has 6 month old twins, one is a dark as she is, and one is white as her husband
The child should me mixed, but could end up looking Spanish or Asian
It’s not the blood, it’s the DNA that matters

I think it could be either way maybe a lil of both me and my hubby have brown eyes my daughter has blue eyes my mom has blue eyes. the dr. said that most likely all of my children will have brown because it dominates but thats why I say it is hard to detemine. Both nationality’s are very strong I’m sure you will see a lil of both. I know how anxious you are I was the same way you can’t wait to see your lil one you try in your mind to put a description together all the “i wonders?” well good luck. It is tough when it come to genetics.

There’s a cute website I just discovered, http://www.makemebabies.com , where you can upload you and your partners photos and “predict” what the baby will look like. You should check it out
But, to actually answer your question, it depends who has the dominant genes on certain features. I have an asian/african american coworker who I honestly would have never guessed was partly asian, until I met her mother. It really just depends on the gene pool.

i wonder the same thing about my baby but my parnter and i are both blond and blue/green eyed so mine is easy i think…..from what I have seen, if your baby is a boy it will probably look alot like your husband and if a girl she will look more like you. Sounds like the baby will be very cute either way. dark hair, skin and eyes.

Honestly its very hard to be able to tell that. More than likely your baby will have different things from both of you as in color and everything. A babies eye color and skin color can change after they are first born. So don’t get too used to it.

Those are both dominant, so I think your baby will look mixed. You will be able to see both Asian and Spanish in him/her. It will be a very cute baby! Congratulations!!

According to Kate on Jon and Kate Plus 8 the gene is very dominant and that is why their children all favor Jon and his family. You will never know though until they are born.
