What Will My Babys Skin Tone Be Like?
Posted on 03. Nov, 2009 by in Q&A
i’ve been told tht men tend to have the stronger genes when it comes to what a baby looks like in most cases. my fiance is caucasian and hispanic and im all african american. (in a sense lol. my parents look dark skinned but my dads dad is indian and his mom is african american and my moms mom is indian/african american and caucasian an her dad was african american.) were allll mixed up lol in the ultrasound we had about 3 weeks ago you can tell that he is a lighter complexion because he has dark lips lol he apparently got those from me even thee dr pointed that out to us. it doesn’t mtter to us what he looks like because were gonna love him endlessly regardless. were just curious as to what ppl think he will look like. im thinking a caramel tan complexion or the indian shade? what do i know lol

I’m going to guess a brown baby.
I agree with you – a caramel– a dark shade
Meh – either way – I’m sure he will be beautiful.
I am white.. allround… very pale right now because I can’t go tanning..
My boyfriend is Native American and Caucasion – his skin tone is dark — a normal Native shade. Now he is extremely brown (works outside).
I think our son will be white for the most part – maybe an olive tone.

I have a white Australian father and South East Asian mum (Filipino) so with that nice chocolate skin. Everybody is different, but I definitely came out with more my fathers skin. My eldest bro has a real nice tan, while I have a white/olive complexion.
Everybody’s different, let’s see!

Well I am Native Indian and German with some french in there and all 3 of my kids are white like their dad. And I look very native. With darker skin tones.
My kids have brown eyes and brown hair because I do. Brown is the dominant color.
I bet your kid is going to be gorgeous either way. Sounds like a great mix.

O javen’t personally heard that skin tones are off the baby’s father’s. But whatever your baby looks like at birth is not perminate, babies change their skin tone at birth to three mounths from light to darker.

Sorry, but that is nonsense. Honestly, with you being African American, your baby will probably look like a light skinned African American.

Your child will be beautiful. I like to say a creamy swiss mocha. I am black & hispanic and my husband is swedish (very pale). Our children are born looking quite light; however the oldest now is the color of Raven Simone and the youngest is still very light. I love my girls. Be mindful of the nosy people that make rude comments after you have your baby, some people don’t mean to be so cruel but others on the other hand are quite ignorant…i.e. your baby is so light is the father white?… Unfortunately, mixed children tend to get alot of attention…people need to realize they are just like other babies and all babies are a beautiful gift so don’t let the stares annoy you. Your children are beautiful and you and your fiance make a beautiful couple. Congratulations.

Men can have stronger genes when it comes to how they will ‘pull’ with a baby…but generally, it’s usually the one with the most dominate of traits is what the baby is most likely to inherit from.
I’d say, since your man looks fairly light (by what I can see in that tiny display picture anyway), and you seem to be on the darker side, along with a relatively darker-skinned family, your baby may mostly be on the darker end of tones, but I don’t believe as dark as you. Probably somewhere in between as you suggested, although I’m not sure I’d call it a caramel tone⦠even though this may be possible considering the Hispanic side in his genes.
However, it really all obviously depends on the individual baby. Mixed people, even with the same backgrounds being ‘mixed’, can look entirely different. I can just give you a quick example…
My best friend is ‘technically’ black, although she is very mixed also. She is of a medium complexion I’d say, while her father is extremely dark and full black, and her mother being very light with mixes of black, but mostly Indian and some Caucasian in her. Her one sibling turned out much lighter than her, the other, darker…and again, her somewhere in the middle.
She herself now just had a baby, with a 100% white man – as in blonde haired, blue-eyed German. Their baby was born very, very light, with minimal ‘black’ features but her nose, and a mix of both of their hair. The baby’s hair color itself is a reddish blonde like the father, and her eyes are a gray hazel (out of blue from the father, and deep brown from mom).
I think in some cases too, whatever you have hidden recessively in your gene pool can also choose to come out in your own child and surprise you. My one sister and I are brunette (myself) and blonde, and our youngest little sister is a flaming red-head from two brunette parents and NO redheaded family members.
But either way, like you said you’ll love your child regardless. I just think until it comes you can only speculate and make it a game of guessing what features and etc. your baby will have. And as you saw, ultrasounds can give you some insightful indications too. (My little guy has his daddy’s button nose already! And thank God, cuz I got a straight-up Italian shnoz from my side and did NOT want my nose passed on to my child at all costs lol.)
So good luck with everything! Here’s to genes and heredity….

There’s really no way to know, for example look at heidi klum and seal. One of their kids is really dark one is medium toned and the other is white with blonde hair. My Husband is half black he has brown eyes and dark brown hair, I’m white with blue eyes and black hair. My daughter is 4 months old and was born white with black hair and light eyes, but now her skin is a milado color she has medium brown hair and one blue eye and one brown eye. Basically it’s one of lifes little surprises, it’s fun to try to guess. Just to let you know even if they look one way as a newborn they might change. my friend is half persian. Her daughter came out dark, but then got lighter.
