What Should An 8-month Old Baby Weigh?

My sister has an 8 month old baby. She has refused to bathe the baby more than once a week due to a rash that the baby has had since birth. The doctor has told her to put lotion on the baby to take care of the “rash” which is just dry skin according to the doctor. Now she just has the baby on milk and pedialite because she now has it in her head that it is a food allergy that is causing the rash. My nephew is now 8 months old and weighs 14 lbs. Is this a problem, or am I just over reacting??

If the baby is eating and drinking….don’t worry…he may be teething…which can cause horrible diarreah and diaper rash…. (and she may be right about certain foods…this is why we only give the baby certain foods…wait for a week… see if the baby has a reaction….then try something new…and so on….also my 8 mo old grand-daughter weighs all of 13lbs….compared to my friends grand-daughter who weighs 22lbs!!…and she is only breast fed….go figure!!….try this link: http://www.healthline.com/channel/diaper…

i know this may sound stupid but try powdered corn flour on the rash, i have six kids of my own four are still in nappies, try it i swear it works but make sure it’s made out of corn and not flour.

I have an 8-month old and he weighs about 15-16 lbs. But he eats 2-3 solid meals a day, plus 3 bottles. So he is eating quite a bit. Yet still does not weigh as much as other children. Every baby is different.
Try bringing up bathing the baby in the Huggies Shea Butter wash. It would help keep the skin moisturized and healthy.
If you are concerned, talk to her, see if you could go with her to the doctor the next time she goes. Talk to your sister and the doctor about any concerns you have.

You should speak with her and tell her to feed that poor baby. If she refuses you need to call child protective services. This baby needs the vitamins found in milk and juice. When you say milk to you mean cow’s milk? Baby needs formula until 12 mos. Let’s put it this way… my 16 month old weighs 23 lbs, and my 2 month old weighs 13.5 lbs.

i would tell your sister to take him to the doctor and have him run tests on your nephew.
my cousin who came to llive with my mum was allergic to cows milk and was on soya milk.
she was 14 months and in 9 month old clothes. she is now able to have cows milk and is slowly putting on weight. she is now 2 and weighs around 22lbs and is in 12-18 clothes some are 9-12 months.
but if a food allergy hasnt been diganosed by a proffesional i would be extremely worried. your nephew isnt getting what he needs. so please act now before you sister puts his health or his life in danger
