start off with using detergents without scents or fabric softeners. they sell baby detergents in the US called dreft…not sure if thats the same as persil. you can gradually start washing like one or two outfits and seeing if it irritates your babies skin and you might be able to wash all his and your clothes together.

As long as the detergent is perfume and dye free, it should be fine. Here’s a helpful tip for you that I do every time I do laundry. Pair the baby socks up and roll them when you wash them. I have a front loading washer and for the longest time I’d loose socks in the rubber seal around the door. So I started pairing them(unless my son manages to stick his foot in his poopy diaper) and I haven’t lost one since, plus it saves on folding time. They come out clean and dry this way too.

Actually I think your soap would be fine, if it doesn’t iritate your skin it soud be safe for babies, ask other mothers or talk to your obgyn this question. They would be able to help you find a soap better than us Americans who seem to be answering your question, good luck and congrats on the baby.
By the way, I used Tide (American brand of laundry soap) for all my kids clothes and it was fine, no need for a gentler detergent

try using a detergent labeled “free” of dyes and perfumes, washing baby’s clothes separately, and using half the suggested amount. You may even do a double rinse on baby’s laundry. When my son was born i just used all and he was fine. They actually make laundry soap for babies.

dont make the same mistake I did, by ripping off tags and washing all the new clothes. My son ended up being almost 10 pounds, and didnt fit into some of the stuff and I couldnt exchange the stuff I washed! I like Dreft, it smells really good! Congratulations, and good luck!

I am not sure about persil for babies..please see the link below. I have always used Dreft and washed my babies clothes separate from ours without fabric softener. It is not needed with Dreft. My mother also used Ivory Flakes back in the 60’s and 70’s. It was very gentle as well. I believe they still sell the Ivory Flakes for babies.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persil_Powe…

Try to use a detergent that doesn’t have a fragrance or is hypo-allergic as babies are very sensitive.

i would wait until you are farther along to start doing laundry for the baby, but you do need to wash everything that will come in contact of the babies skin before birth with a baby detergent such as dreft (there are other off brands that are cheaper too). Detergents like this are not as harsh on babies skin and they smell terrific. Good luck.

i washed all my kids stuff with regular detergent and washed their stuff with my stuff. never had a problem, although that doesnt mean that your child wont have more sensitive skin than mine do.

I’m not familiar with persil, but I just used regular laundry detergent (Tide) and fabric softer (the sheets) and all was fine. Whatever you use on your clothes and bedding now should be okay to use on the baby’s.

If they don’t sell Dreft, do they sell laundry detergent called All ? If so, they make an All Baby laundry detergent. You may be able to buy Dreft online. If you can’t find it, I’m sure it won’t hurt the baby to wash with whatever you use, as long as the baby doesn’t have allergies or sensitive skin. Just watch for a reaction to it (such as a skin rash)

You shouldn’t use any fabric softener at all, and the only detergent you should use should be a mild baby detergent (like Deft or Ivory Snow in the US–not sure what they have where you are), or a “Free and Clear” detergent that has no dyes or fragrances.

not sure what persil is. but any mild detergent free of dyes/perfums is ok for baby. here in the US Dreft is a big baby detergent name. as for the fabric softener i used regular old bounce dryer sheets. anything that is labeled hypoallergenic, or free of dyes/perfums would be ok for baby.

try only using ones that are specific to babies like Dreft. I think there are also old fashioned ways of washing them like baking soda or something.

I have never heard of persil….what I would recommend is a “free and clear” laundry soap. Like All Free and Clear. And don’t use as much as it is recommended, go under the fill line a bit. I also don’t advise using fabric softner or fabric softner sheets in the dryer.
Congrats!

some people swear by Dreft or other baby detergent. I have always washed baby’s things in the same thing I use on my stuff. I do seperate baby’s things and wash by themselves…so major dirt from my DH’s clothes or older children, or me, doesn’t ruin the clothes.
If you have skin problems in your family….ie exema or allergies to perfumes, etc. you may have to buy a die free/fragrance free detergent.
Otherwise, pick something you like and that’s good enough
One more tip…for tough formula or breast milk spit up stains that won’t come out, try Woolite’s oxyclean for CARPET in the bright blue and red bottle. Yep, it’s for carpet, but i swear by it. Spray some on and wash in as hot water as the fabric will allow. Sometime takes two tries, but I swear by it. Then just wash again to ensure all of the woolite cleaner is out. I”ve gotten even the most stubborn stains out of my kids’s clothes!

You should get a detergent especially for baby. Ivory is good, there are some others. Don’t use fabric softener as it has too many chemicals in there.

dreft is a baby detergent or ALL has a baby detergent that costs alot less. It depends on the babys skin to know if it will be harsh. If you use regular maybe try using very little so it rinses out good.

wash in a fabric softener instead of detergent then it will make clothes soft and clean them. works good for newborns. good luck and congrats on baby

use dreft at first for awhile, it’s in a pink bottle, then slowly try introducing other detergents, if you notice a rash or anything be very careful and rewash everything in the dreft

its hard to know how sensitive your babies skin will be, but to be safe, use something especially gentle for the first while.. There are special laundry soaps just for babies.. and skip the fabric softener too… You should also run the rinse cycle twice, to make sure there isnt any soap left in the baby clothes…
and good luck… enjoy your new little one!

Babies’ skin can be really sinsitive. You are better off forgoing the fabric softener and handwashing everything with really mild soap until the baby gets to be about 6-8 months old.
